The Buckeye State is back to work, due in large part to the economic benefits of hydraulic fracturing. Businesses throughout Ohio are feeling the positive impacts of deriving energy from shale, thanks to the oil and natural gas-rich Utica Shale Play – which is estimated to hold 940 million barrels of oil.
Ohio’s employment rate gets a boost from this important industry, which supports more than 200,000 jobs across the state. Labor income reaches $12.7 billion each year – 4.1 percent of the state’s labor income – due to contributions from the oil and natural gas industry. Ohio’s natural gas and oil production make an impact on the country as well. In 2012 the state contributed 4.7 percent to the total U.S. energy manufacturing GDP.
